The platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), sometimes referred to as the duck-billed platypus, is a semiaquatic egg-laying mammal endemic to eastern Australia, including Tasmania. We were lucky enough to see this one, in the wild while visiting the Salmon Ponds in Derwent Valley. The owners told us that he lives in the river and visits the ponds to swim and play. We stalked him for a while, and captured this picture……….never in a million years did I think I would photograph one in the wild………a happy day!
